How to connect printers to a network?

Having a network printer has great advantages. The main one is the possibility of using the same physical station from different computers both at home and at work. In this way, for those people who have several work teams, but a single printer, the option of connecting it to a network solves many problems. In general terms, printers can become network equipment, so that it can be accessed wherever you are, without having to worry about having a printer for each of your computers.

As we said, many users already enjoy this option that offers so many advantages, especially the fact of not having to move the printer from one computer to another, or vice versa. Nor will it be necessary for you to use peripherals such as USB cables, memories or CDs.

To begin with, you must have a network installed at home or at work ; If you do not have this network, you will not be able to carry out the connection. In this way, in today's article we are going to explain, in an affordable, complete and step-by-step way, what you must do to connect and configure a network printer.

How to install and configure a network printer

To start working on the network, you must know how to install and configure your network printer from your home or from work correctly, so that you can enjoy the enormous advantages of not having to physically move the information to print. So, below, we offer you the steps you must take to achieve it. It is important that you take into account that you must have an Internet network installed, since it will be in charge of allowing the link between each of the computers that you want to connect to your printer. If you do not have an Internet network, we will not be able to carry out the network connection.

Step 1. Installing and connecting the printer

The first step is to install and connect the printer; Well, for this we must make sure that the equipment can be connected to the network, that is, we must verify that it can be connected to an Internet network, either through an Ethernet cable or through a wireless device. You should keep in mind at this point that the process we are describing may be subject to various variations taking into account the specific model of your printer.

  • Steps to follow if you have an Internet connection via Ethernet cable:

  • Place the printer near the Internet router.

  • Then connect the printer to the router using the cable.

  • It is recommended to turn off the router when making the connection, although it is not mandatory.

  • As soon as the two computers are connected, turn them on; the computer should recognize the printer automatically.

  • Steps to follow if you have an Internet connection through a wireless network:

  • Keep in mind that it depends specifically on the brand of the equipment.

  • The first step is to turn on the equipment and select “Wireless LAN Connection”.

  • Next, connect the printer to the network.

  • The last step is to enter the “ Password ” that is requested.

Step 2. Setting up the printer on the network

This step must be carried out from your computer. Once you have started it, you have to start the configuration of the two equipment (computer and printer). To do this, you have to follow the following instructions:

  • The first step is to open “Settings”  from your computer.

  • Next, select “Control Panel”.

  • Access "Hardware and Sound" from the control panel.

  • Click on “View devices and printers”.

  • Finally, select "Add a new printer", so that the computer begins to search the network -either by cable or wirelessly- for the existence of new devices.

  • After a few minutes, the new devices found will appear on the computer screen, we select our printer and click on "Next" .

Step 3. Share the printer on the network

At the moment in which the equipment is installed and configured correctly, we must share the printer on the network so that other computers have the possibility of connecting to it and being able to print via a wireless network. With this end in mind, we must search for this new device from our computer. The steps to follow are similar to those carried out in the previous section:

  • The first step will be to access " Settings " of our team.

  • Then we select “ Hardware and sound ”.

  • Then “Devices and Printers ”.

  • And, finally, “Add a new printer ”.

When our printer model appears, we select it and carry out these new steps:

  • We click, with the right button of our mouse, on the icon of the printer that we wish to configure.

  • Next, a menu will be displayed in which we will select the "Share" option; once selected, we choose the option “Share this printer”  and, next, “Submit print jobs on client computer”.

  • To finish, click on “Apply”  and  “OK” . In this way, your printer is already shared and you will be able to access it in an agile and simple way in order to make your impressions no matter where you are, be it home or work.

What is a toner - and what you should know before you buy it

What is toner or a toner cartridge? Are there really differences to the ink cartridge? If yes, which ones are they? After all, a toner, like an ink cartridge, belongs to the consumables of a printer and has the sole task of putting the printed image on the paper. Especially if you work in this area like we do, this question is still asked in our environment. That's why we've written a small article that answers these questions.

What is toner or a toner cartridge?

A toner or a toner cartridge belongs to the consumables of a laser printer and is used for every printout. But how does a toner differ from an ink cartridge, for example? Ink cartridges are small containers that are filled with ink and are used in an inkjet printer. The toner cartridges, on the other hand, are filled with toner powder and only supply colorants for the laser printer or copier to create professional print images. The powder is very fine so that it can flow and so resembles a liquid. With toner, the toner particles are transferred from the powder to the passing paper by electrical forces and melted with a heating roller.

What is mono-component toner?

One-component toner is a combination of toner and fixer that makes it easy to use. The one-component toner has a built -in developer , which is necessary if the laser printer works with a developer roller. Here the toner powder is charged by a tube that rotates around a magnet, the particles are attracted and melted by heat and transferred to the paper. Only a compact toner cartridge is required, which is more expensive to buy. Since the single-component toner already has a developer and this would falsify the colors, it is usually delivered in black.

What is a two-component toner?

The real feature of the two-component toner is that the developer and the actual toner are separate. The finest iron filings serve as a developer, which is only used to transport the toner to the photoconductor and is not transferred to the paper. The developer is wiped off and, depending on the printer design, falls either into a waste toner container or it is transported back into the toner cartridge to pick up toner powder again. Due to the cheap iron filings, which serves as a developer, the two-component toners are considerably cheaper than one-component toners.

What is liquid toner?

With this method, a photo drum is exposed during the printing process. As soon as this has been exposed, the drum can accept the toner. The special feature of this process is that the toner is not toner powder, as is the case with the other two processes, but is liquid. This variant was developed by the Indigo company, which was taken over by the market-leading company Hewlett Packard and is now operating on the market as HP-Indigo. This company exclusively produces the required digital printing machines. This application with the use of liquid toner is also known as photo ink. The photo ink is heated during application and transferred to the printing paper with the help of the transfer rollers, where it cools down and hardens suddenly. This method is best for paper since the printing paper is hardly heated and does not give off moisture. This avoids the paper becoming wavy and is in perfect condition. Machines currently exist that support up to six colors simultaneously. With these machines, printing with special colors is no longer a problem. With this method, it is also possible to print with light cyan or light yellow. This made the goal of photorealistic printing possible. With this method, it is also possible to print with light cyan or light yellow. This made the goal of photorealistic printing possible. With this method, it is also possible to print with light cyan or light yellow. This made the goal of photorealistic printing possible.

Buy original toner or alternative toner cartridges?

The question keeps coming up: "Should I buy original or alternative toners?" If you want your printer or copier to provide you with reliable, brilliant print results for many years to come, we recommend that you only use original products. Buying original toners is usually the slightly more expensive option, but they are of better quality than when buying alternative toner cartridges. Original toners are 100% matched to your printer and have excellent materials and achieve brilliant and professional quality, maintain the printing performance specified by the manufacturer, are very reliable and ensure a long service life of your printer. Original toners give you the confidence you need to achieve perfect prints for a long time. Original consumables do not have to be expensive. In our shop you can buy printer cartridges and toner cheaply.

Rebuild toner

Rebuild toner is used toner cartridges from well-known manufacturers, which are collected by dealers as empties and then sold to recycling companies. The empties are processed and refilled with the appropriate powder. During processing, defective parts are replaced so that the toner can once again fulfill its purpose and can be sold and put into operation without any problems. Since the toner is recycled using this method, this process is very environmentally friendly. The filled toners can be offered on the market much more cheaply than originally packaged new goods. Unfortunately, toners that have just appeared on the market cannot yet be offered as rebuild toners, since empties must first be produced in order to be able to use this recycling method.

Health & Environment

Before processing, toner is not a harmless material and one should avoid direct contact with the toner powder for health reasons. When you replace a toner or clean your printer, it doesn't matter if you touch the toner powder. However, permanent contact with toner can be very harmful and carcinogenic. Therefore, please work carefully and cleanly if you want to replace a toner or clean your printer. We therefore recommend that you always use disposable gloves when carrying out maintenance work on the laser printer. It is now known that when printing with a laser printer or photocopier, fine toner particles are emitted and these can be distributed via the air flowing out of the printer and inhaled. These emissions are caused by the high heat exposure during the printing process. Again, it is advisable to install a fine dust filter on the printer to filter the air and, accordingly, the fine dust particles that are blown out of the printer.

Consumables - imaging drum

An important topic with regard to toner as a consumable is also the image drum (drum kit) of a laser printer, because this is just as important for brilliant print quality as the toner or ink cartridge (e.g. HP, Brother, Canon, Epson, Lexmark, Kyocera, Samsung) responsible. The image drum is also one of the wearing parts in a laser printer and must therefore be serviced and replaced if necessary after prolonged use and heavy wear of your printer. Image drums are produced by the manufacturers just like toner and ink cartridges and are optionally offered as spare parts or consumables. Image drums are used for every print, so it is important to ensure that you use good material again. When replacing your image drums on the printer, do not do without an original. Your printer will thank you with reliability, full confidence and professional print results.

Which is better toner or ink?

Anyone who buys a new printer basically decides between ink or toner. This decision influences the printing costs. The choice is not easy, however, because there are different models with ink and toner - each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

Ink and toner: the differences

Ink or toner, which is better - is often the question when it comes to purchasing a printer. In a nutshell: Ink is used in inkjet printers, toner in laser printers. Ink is liquid, toner is powder. Both materials are equally suitable for printing. However, different printing methods are used. The two technologies have developed in parallel and will continue to exist in parallel because they are each really well suited for different purposes.

How does an ink cartridge work?

This cartridge contains ink and usually sits in the print head. An airtight foil container keeps the ink in the cartridge, it can only escape through a small opening. It flows into the small ink nozzles of the printhead, which transfer it to the sheet (or other medium) to be printed. Ink cartridges have different yields, the yield depends on the printing device and follows an ISO standard. Cartridges with a very high yield are naturally more expensive.

How does a toner cartridge work?

The toner cartridge is a cassette filled with the fine toner powder. The toner powder is fixed and heated on the paper by an electrical charge. The individual particles fuse together and adhere to the paper. The yield of toner cartridges also depends on the printer. Toner cartridges are also standardized and are determined in the ISO 19752 standard test. It is the yield per unit volume.

Toner or ink - which is better for which purpose?

A concise, general statement is: If you print less, you are better off with ink, if you print a lot, you should rely on laser toner. The limit is around 2,000 pages per year. If you exceed this limit, you can print more cheaply with a laser printer and the appropriate compatible toner. But this statement is really general. For example, if you use the original cartridges from the printer manufacturer for toner, you pay significantly more than with refill or remanufactured cartridges and other variants of recycled or replica cartridges. In certain cases, e.g. when printing photos, inkjet printers can convince with a higher quality. But this statement is also very general, because of course there are differences in quality between individual brands.

Does ink cost more than toner?

  • OEM printer cartridges and cartridges: The cartridges or cartridges from the original equipment manufacturer (original equipment manufacturer) are trademarked and are produced by the printer manufacturer. Well-known OEM brands are Epson, HP, Canon and Lexmark. Its quality is impeccable, but it is the most expensive variant.

  • Compatible printer cartridges or cartridges: These are replicated by special companies, taking patent rights into account on the OEM goods. They are often slightly larger in order to circumvent patent protection. Their quality can be very good, but they are much cheaper than the OEM cartridges. Compatible cartridges or cartridges from manufacturers with an ISO 9001 certificate are recommended.

  • Refills and rebuilt cartridges: These are processed printer cartridges or toner cartridges with new ink or toner filling, which means they are cheap and also environmentally friendly because the material is recycled. The quality can decrease with very frequent processing of a single cartridge or cartridge. It depends on the provider how much he pays attention to it.

It should also be noted that older printer models could print more complex and therefore more expensive than newer ones - or vice versa (depending on the brand).

Toner or ink: intended use decides

When deciding whether ink or toner is better suited for printing, the intended use is decisive. If you need perfect photo prints, you should rely on a very good inkjet printer. Cheap models, like laser printers, only deliver average results. Printing on glossy photo paper only works with ink. If you only print text, you are better off with a laser printer that prints with toner. This works excellently even on cheap plain paper. Ink, on the other hand, sometimes leaves a frayed printed image on this paper. This adverse effect disappears on high-quality paper, but this paper is expensive. If you want to print photos cheaply, you can use an Ecotank model from Epson or the ink subscription from HP, for example. With a large number of prints, these variants reduce the costs drastically. Due to the precise calculation of such a subscription, this is most likely worthwhile for professional photographers who print a lot but know their quantities exactly. Laser printers with toner create simple, inexpensive text printing. These considerations should be made before purchasing a printer and deciding between toner and ink. The ink cartridges and toner cartridges can account for the largest portion of the cost of printing in the long run. The price can be reduced with XXL cartridges or multipacks. For absolute occasional printers, it can be important that, in the worst case, ink can dry up in the printer – toner, on the other hand, cannot.

Resolving Ink or Toner Cartridge Problems

Ink and toner cartridges are essential components of printers, whether for home use, business, or industrial purposes. However, users freq...
